Beach Program Director
Coach Dawn Kerr is in her fifth season with Platform Elite. She led her 18National team to qualify for the USAV National Championships in New Orleans in the 2014-2015 season. Dawn is the head varsity volleyball coach for men and women at St. Ambrose University so has backed away from coaching an indoor team for Platform, but still maintains her position as our Beach Program Director.
Dawn received numerous awards during her prep volleyball career at Riverdale, including QC Times all area Player of the Year, three time first team All-Conference, All-Conference Player of the Year, Honorable Mention All-State Team, and National Guard female Athlete of the Year. Dawn developed a love for the beach volleyball game starting in her high school years, and won the regional AVP Juniors tournament in Milwaukee Wisconsin for 18U, then took 3rd in the AVP National Championships Beach Volleyball Finals in Hermosa Beach, CA.
Dawn attended Mississippi State University on a full volleyball scholarship, starting at various positions throughout her career there, hitting right side, playing as a defensive specialist, and setting. She was four time Academic All-SEC. During her off-season, Dawn competed in and won many beach volleyball tournaments across the southern region from Florida to Texas.
Dawn headed for the beaches of California after her college career, where she had opportunities to train with many high level players and coaches. She won open events, played in AVP events qualifying main draw, and had a ton of fun. During this time, she coached a middle school girls’ program and took them from 0-12 prior to her arrival to 11-1 her first season coaching.
Dawn's passion for the doubles game has led her to begin hosting juniors beach doubles tournaments and leagues in the Quad Cities. She and her husband Nik work together to provide an array of volleyball opportunities. Nik handles the adult leagues and tourneys, and Dawn focuses on the juniors. Nik and Dawn have three wonderful boys at home, Chase, Mason, and Cooper. Dawn is an award-winning interior designer who now manages rental property and is a volunteer event coordinator for local charities.
