This will be Matt’s third season at Platform Elite.  He was co-head coach for 16Navy last season.  His interest in volleyball was sparked when one of his daughters, a sixth grader at the time, came home from school announcing that she was giving up basketball and instead was going to play volleyball.  Matt was quickly hooked by the fast action of the game.  He has enjoyed watching several of his daughter’s progress from humble 13u beginnings through the fast, precision-skilled pace of college volleyball.

Matt is an IMPACT certified coach and holds a Coaching Authorization License from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.  Matt’s coaching philosophy is grounded in deliberate practice.  A firm belief that any athlete can consistently over time improve their skills by following three steps:  1) recognizing their current skill level, 2) setting an attainable (but not too easy) growth goal, and 3) actively working drills designed to reach that goal.

Matt graduated from Minnesota State University Mankato, MN in 1994 with a degree in Computer Information Science.  He is currently employed by AgWorks Software in Davenport, IA as their Director of Technology.

Matt and his wife reside in Bettendorf and have four daughters, one dog, two cats, six five chickens, and one bunny.  One daughter attends Northern Arizona University.  Another attends and plays volleyball at Buena Vista University.  The other two daughters are students at Pleasant Valley High School.
